Love Letter to the Busy
Be still.
Busyness is a common occurrence in our current world. We always have a million and one things to do and less than enough hours in the day to get them done, accounting for quality sleep time and the necessary social hour with friends and family.
“But Martha was very busy and distracted with all of her serving responsibilities; and she approached Him and said, ‘Adonai, is it of no concern to You that my sister has left me to do the serving alone? Tell her to help me and do her part.’ But the Adon replied to her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered and anxious about so many things; but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part [that which is to her advantage], which will not be taken away from her.’” Luke 10:40-42
Busyness seems to be an unavoidable byproduct of life’s obligations. However, upon further investigation, we must be honest with ourselves and realize that though this may well be the case, not every errand and every task is beneficial to our ultimate goals in life.
Here is a no judgement zone, because truly I have also been guilty of being too “busy,” adding tasks to my already full plate and feeling burnt out. Ultimately, placing my personal life on the back burner and unfortunately becoming physically ill because of it on a number of occasions.
It is at this discovery that I decided to reach for the shears and begin to cut. Cut out frivolous “obligations,” dead-end pursuits, and finally, the mundane, which brings me no where closer to accomplishing life goals.
I advise you to do the same.
Grab those shears.
Once you’ve done the cutting, you will realize how much time is wasted in being “busy” and how draining it is to your physical and mental health.
“Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” Matthew 6:28b-29
Life is for the living, for the experiencing.
Enjoy the moments with the people with whom you’ve been gifted, taking none for granted. And as you journey through this realm, remember, you were meant to be here for such a time as this.
Nothing is coincidental.
Nothing is a mistake.
“… be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion ...” Genesis 1:28 (partial)
Live life and don’t let the busyness of life live you.
