Love Letter to the Loud
“Silence is golden,” are words of an ancient proverb that perpetually rings true throughout the ages.
Gold is one of earth’s most precious metals. It never corrodes. It has innumerable valuable properties and uses, and it cannot be destroyed. In the aforementioned proverb it is made comparable to silence.
A powerful comparison, indeed.
If you, however, find silence “awkward,” and feel the need to “fill” it with any number of sounds and words, you lose power, credibility and respectability with each unnecessary syllable and utterance.
“In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.” Proverbs 10:19
When the Word of Yah mentions sin, it means dysfunction and the lack of upholding the law. The more frivolously you speak, uttering words without necessity, the less seriously you will be taken when you do have something important to contribute.
“A fool’s voice is known by multitude of words.” Ecclesiastes 5:3
“Don’t be quick with your mouth to say anything hastily before the Most High, because He is in heaven, but you are on earth. Therefore, let your words be few.” Ecclesiastes 5:2
I’ve stated in previous letters that the Kingdom of heaven, where the Most High resides, is within you. This is a powerful reality, and it deserves a moment of reflection.
Selah.
Yahuah (the life-giving Existing One) dwells within you. So when you make an utterance without forethought, attempting to “fill” the silence, you may end up with more trouble than it is worth.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue; and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21
The above proverb makes it clear that whatever you say, will manifest in your life.
“But I say unto you, that every idle word that men speak, they will give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.” Matthew 12:36-37
Think of your words as seeds that are planted once they leave your mouth. They are carried away of the wind and cast into the earth. Eventually, a tree will grow, and on that tree fruit will bear. The fruit is the direct result of the words you nonchalantly allowed to leave your lips.
There are no take backs.
The only solution to frivolous words, thoughtlessly expressed, is to utter new ones, directly casting down what you said prior, especially if your former words were destructive.
Many people lost years worth of friendships and intimate relationships because of words. People have been executed because of words. Whole nations went to war because of words.
“If you have nothing good to say, don’t say anything at all,” is a cliche saying I’d like to shake up a little. Let’s replace the word good with the word essential.
The new saying is infinitely more powerful:
“If you have nothing essential to say, don’t say anything at all.”
It may seem too serious and stringent of an advice, but try it out. It may surprise you the manner in which people’s perception of you changes. They will go from not paying much attention to what you have say, since you always have something to say, not many of them needful in the slightest, to their ears perking up because now when you do speak, it is only to inject power.
Yes, your words become power when they are few.
Think quality over quantity.
“A truly wise person uses few words; a person with understanding is even-tempered. Even fools are thought wise when they keep silent; with their mouth shut, they seem intelligent.” Proverbs 17:27-28
